Playing with templates

Playing with blog templates today. Not sure this one will last, but it's different. This photo was taken last night, from my kitchen window, strange weather, but beautiful rainbows!

My latest love:

Half Aprons. I {heart} them. In big weird ways. I recall my Grandma wearing her aprons everyday. I've started collecting fabrics and I plan on sewing a dozen aprons as Christmas gifts. So, if you are a girl I hang with or a girl I'm related're probably getting an apron from me for Christmas this year. Sorry, I can't help myself.

Summer Storms

{I didn't take this photo, nabbed it from some sciency website...ain't it cool}
It feels like summer. Some years in Alberta it doesn't. September comes and you feel cheated out of your right to enjoy the season. Not this year, this year it is hot, with blue skies and soaring temperatures. I have days where I LOVE it, where it pulls me out and I bask in the heat, yet I also have days that drive me to air conditioned spaces and have me murmering about the whole situation.

The interesting thing about this daytime heat is when it meets the cool air of night. The hot air updrafts into the cool night air and we have sensational summer thunderstorms. I have never seen their equal. Last night the lightning was like a strobe light outside the window, constant flashing light and a low growl of thunder that didn't stop. There were bangs that rocked the house, huge flashes of light, with immediate bangs of thunder that you could feel in your belly.

It pulled one little 7 year old in…

Sleepover Barbie Snippets

Mom, why do I have to go to college? I'm done learning.
You must educate yourself my dear.
But I have green eyes now!
Oh...then I guess you're good.

I'm rich.
Then have some salt.
Rich people eat a lot of salt.
Then give me all you got!

What's her problem?
She's a little tired and huminated.
Do you mean humiliated?
Why is she, human..humillat...humiliated?
Because she needs a man.
We only have one man and he's the grandpa.
Whaaaaa...She's so humetitated.

Excuse me?
That's not cool.

Harry Potter

Well, I holed myself up yesterday and a small portion of this morning and read the new Harry Potter book. WOW. I LOVED IT. I had me some teary moments, laughed outloud...and felt completely satisfied when the last page was read. I'd love to spill some topics, but I'll restrain myself. Back to reality.

Kia's Blog

Reading with Keeks

Ms. KiKi is recording books she reads and sharing her thoughts and opinions. If you have a little reader in your world, check it out. It's just in the beginning stages.

I greeted this morning in the shade of the upper garden, donned in my pink bathrobe, eating a white peach. It was sublime. The night left the house and the morning air cool and fresh and I couldn't help but be pulled out to enjoy the beginning of the day. This is a rare occurance, thus it is blog worthy. I usually greet the morning in my basement with a bowl of cereal and a dozen updated blogs to read, with Kia requesting breakfast and some Mommy time.

Kia is in the habit of sleeping till 9 am during summer break and I have been rising at least an hour before she wakes. It's odd, having this extra, private time to myself in the cool of the morning. Maybe the next time a cool, blue skied morning pulls me outside, I'll wake her with an invitation to join me. She'll probably grunt and pull the covers over her head, but I will have tried.
Yesterday, us girls hit Edmonton's Capital EX festival (used to be called Klondike Days). We enjoyed hearing Robert Munsch tell stori…

Summer Projects

I always inflict a list of things I want to accomplish around the house over summer, onto myself and my loved ones. Rarely has this list been completed. Does this stop me? Of course not, since when has time or money ever deterred me from wanting something...In that spirit, here is my summer project list.
Complete the dry river bed in the back garden (1/8 of the project complete)Paint the back fenceRemove peeling paint from all window trims and repaintSink trampoline to ground levelReseal concrete patio and front driveway
Weed Barrier: side of house and west garden plot That's a whole bunch of physical labour. If I'm really being honest with myself, I'm shooting for 4 out of 6. Gotta love being do-it yourselfers. Good, sweaty times.

Hot Dayz of Summer

Beautiful hot summer weather. I'm trying to resist the Canadian urge to complain about it. We set the pool up and not a day has gone by that someone from the family hasn't enjoyed it. Wonderful pool weather. Even better basement weather.

So I'm down in my basement and I did something I swore I would never do. I blame it on the heat. I joined facebook. Russ is discovering this as he reads my blog, as I haven't mustered the courage to admit it to him yet. I was a staunch "not gonna do it" flag waving non facebooker. I knew it would suck me in and become a black hole of time and space for me. All my suspicians were correct...but it has also reintroduced some faces I that part is good, right?

So, let's change the topic...We escaped the heat in the mall on Saturday. It was a mall we had never been to before and I can honestly say, if I ever want to feel young again, that is the mall to go to. It was nothing but old timers, white hair and leather shoes …

Bye bye lite speed

Well, our internet modem died Wednesday night.

I lived Thursday without any internet at all. No email. No SBo forums. No blog reading. No thinking I should read my email, and then not reading my email.

We took advantage of the great weather, but there was a hole where my typing fingers longed to be.

I'm now on Nitro high speed. Whoosh! This connection is speedy! I wrote this post 5 minutes from the time you're reading it, nitro is just that fast. You'll be getting news from me before it even happens now. ;)

Mom, wanna play princess?
K, your the queen then
You're not a princess okay?

Woo, my legs are tired
Ya, maybe you should carry me
Kiddo, my legs are tired too, maybe you should carry me
But I asked you first

I miss Daddy

I miss his nice clothes
Ya, he always looks so nice in clothes

7 things for the 7th month

So I broke in my new mixer with a batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. Dang that machine is the if only it would clean itself.Curveball update: Russ started working at IDL Projects on Monday. Seems to really be enjoying it, though hating the commute. We might look into some Satellite Radio to make the ride more enjoyable. Anyone have it? Feedback would be great...My garden is in a constant state of neediness. We seem to have managed the weeds in the backyard (yay weed and feed), but the front yard requires constant pruning and weeding. My Mother's Day perennials from Russ and Kia are in full bloom and look spectacular, I mean to take some pictures and share. Today is all about laundry. I have a pioneer caravan of clothes surrounding me in my scraproom. I want it gone! Poof! Darn wand seems to be broken...I'm rereading Under the Tuscan Sun for the 3rd time in my marriage. Every few years it pulls me back in and makes see land and space and light in historic ways.…

Gonna Mix it Up This Year.

Russ surprised me with this Kitchen Aid Mixer for my B'day. I was crazy surprised by this one, and now I can't wait to do some baking! It was a great birthday with lots of lounging, scrapping, shopping and of course, eating. We went out to Japanese Village for supper...very yummy and always fun to watch a chef cook right in front of you. Kia made me the cutest little scrapbook poster and bought me my favorite scrapbooking magazine. It was a great start to being 34.

Been Camping

Home from a family campout. Here's a small sampling of some pics from my camera. It was great seeing you all and spending the week together! And it' sure is good to be home and get clean!

Just a few pics from the Canada day gathering at the house. Lots of food, lots of bouncing children and Dads, the time just flew. Thanks for coming!

Happy Canada Day!

Russ and Kia nipped down to the bottom of the street to catch the Canada Day parade this morning. We're off to church this afternoon and then we're hosting a Canada Day party this evening. Photos to follow tomorrow!
