It's that time again

Loving: Dusting off my Christmas CD's and getting Kia addicted to all my favorite Christmas music.
Hating: I'm not quite sure but I think it has something to do with laundry and/or dishes.
Wanting: Straighter outside lights on our house. We had help putting them up so I feel guilty for even feeling this way...but if they were red it would like clumps of chili peppers hanging from my roof line. Because their multi-colored they just look haphazard and a bit messy.
Reading: Not one stinkin' thing.
Wondering: Where the other 32 year old woman are...I seem to only meet gals that are 27 or 28 (which is all well and good but a bit weird) Did all the 32 woman start working again and abandon me? No wait...that's also happening with the 28 year olds.

The Advent Basket

Image
The Advent Basket, originally uploaded by Sabren. Here it is...the annual advent basket of goodies. A little treat each day as we countdown for Christmas. Most of the goodies are books, movies and music we already have. I do toss in a few new treats to the collection...

I hope to take a picture of each item as we countdown to Christmas!

Oh Christmas Tree

Image
Christmas Tree, originally uploaded by Sabren. Put the Christmas Tree up today. Couldn't wait till the first Sunday in December so I cheated. Sue me. I so love the glow of a Christmas tree. Kia set the nativity up under the tree all by herself this year and it looks wonderful.

I swore that last year would be my last with this tree...but alas here it is in all it's puny glory (6 feet tall and I want 7 1/2). Though, it's still beautiful...even if it's not exactly what I envision.

Lovin' the holidays!

Sunshine on my shoulders, makes me happy.

I was driving to Safeway for a few groceries. The music was on and I was singing along to the radio.

In that moment I reminded myself of John Denver. Not that I remembered him, but I was actually like him in some way. I don't know what I was doing but I felt like I was channeling John Denver in some of the head bobbing I was doing.

This should be a clear picture regarding how very very uncool I am.

Painting...again...

Primed the lower level family room today. It is wood panelling. Ick. Not a fan. It is now a ghostly white and will be ready to take color tomorrow. My readers must think my house is gigantic with all the painting I seem to find...it's not. I'm just a perfectionist and giddy that totem gives airmiles.

My home colors are Sisal, olive green and copper. This works on the main floor and in the basement...but on the lower level, not so much. The carpet, as gross as it is, happens to be grey blue. It's not getting changed until we change the wood panelling, which I just primed and will be painting. So they might as well compliment eachother while they are together, right? So the family room is a buttery cream and the other color, dare I say it... is blue! Chalk blue to be technical...The test patch looks so awesome (the two walls with windows will be the cream and the offset walls will be blue). I'm really glad I chose it. Kari Lynn just choked on her Corn Pops reading this.…

Bye Bye Birdie

Kia and the rest of the students from her school, walked to Festival Place today to take in the production of "Bye Bye Birdie". Kia loved it. She's been singing little snippets of songs she can recall and dancing around the house saying odd lines from the show. She said there was lots of kissing but it didn't really bother her (and it was done on stage...not by her).Bye Bye Birdie is a fairly appropriate thing to attend prior to American Thanksgiving.
Had a busy day. Cleaned the house up a bit and had company all afternoon. My friend Sharon came over. She is an amazing photographer who specializes in Photoshop work. Really beautiful stuff! Think I'm gonna get her to help me with my idea for our Christmas card photo... still plotting that one, so I won't share yet.Am I the only one that thinks the new Superman looks a wee bit feminine? Is he the gay superhero?
Moving stuff around in the future family room tonight getting ready to prime over the wood panelling. …

Who d've thunk it...

It's the 21st day of November. We live in Northern Canada. We spent the last 2 1/2 hours outside doing yardwork and using the firepit to burn up branches. It was gorgeous, the the last 20 minutes were a bit on the chilly side even sitting near the roaring fire.

Kia and I went out to play tag in the backyard around 3:40...there were so many branches laying in the back of the yard that we had to stop playing to pick them up...then that lead to the firepit, which lead to cleaning the east side of the house, which lead to sweeping leaves off the patio, which lead to Russ bringing home pizza and all of us sitting around the firepit enjoying supper on November 21st.

FYI: The average maximum temperature is 0'C in November. So I really appreciated the 11'C of today.

Showhome Snobs

Russ and I are total show home snobs. We've been going through show homes since 1997. We've mastered the terminology...we've seen the low end and we've seen the high end. We know we can't afford the high end but we drive great distances to go through a high end showhome.

Case in point: Today.

Cameron Heights has 5 new show homes. Two of which are by Darren Homes, which is our favorite builder in the city. They were each million dollar homes and they didn't disappoint. The craftsmanship, the expense, the size...it is just so impressive. The first one had an elevator and a master closet that surely rivals any celebrity's closet. Every little detail was done to perfection. Over $120,000 in automation alone. The second house was a modern arts and craft style that made me crave a modern style. So clean and minimal. There was a huge (10 x 26 foot) wall of water that ran from the ceiling of the main floor down to the basement. Any description I try to come up with w…

TV show box sets

They are everywhere...I so want the Fraggle Rock season one set. I loved that show as a kid and hope Kia becomes addicted.

I've been singing the theme song to "The Littlest Hobo" all night...when is that box set coming out? Or is that a Canadian thing? As a kid, I always thought the song was being sung by the dog. I was a stupid kid.

THERE'S A VOICE,
THAT KEEPS ON CALLING ME.
DOWN THE ROAD,
IS WHERE I'LL ALWAYS BE.
EVERY STOP I MAKE,
I'LL MAKE A NEW FRIEND.
CAN'T STAY FOR LONG, JUST TURN AROUND AND I'M GONE AGAIN.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANNA SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON

DOWN THIS ROAD, THAT NEVER SEEMS TO END,
WHERE NEW ADVENTURE, LIES JUST AROUND THE BEND

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, THE WHOLE WORLD IS MY HOME

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE…

Arbitrary Brainwaves

Kia and a little boy from her class, had the honor of carrying the Remembrance Day wreath up to the stage during the Remembrance Day program on Thursday. The teacher hosting the program asked that their be no applause during the program, that this was a way to show honor and respect. The kids seemed to get it, but their were parents in the audience that seriously could not handle this. Like the lady in front of me. Who seemed horrified that she was the only one clapping...time and time and time...again.
Lacquer. Russ installed the desk in the new office/scraproom. It's a solid fir surface that runs about 2 feet deep and 13 "L" shaped feet in length. The work surface is a deep dark brown stain called American Colonial. It is offset with clear finished fir for contrast along the edges and the shelving system. So where does the Lacquer come into the picture? Russ says he loves the smell of Lacquer, that it is indeed one of his favorite smells. So he applied it. I …

Oh...the boys...

I just got off the phone with Russ. I had some news to share with him. He didn't really take it all that well.

Kia and I got to school today a little late. One of the boys from her class ran up to her. He had a small gift that he had brought to school for her. A necklace. A pretty beaded necklace that spells out the word F O X Y. Yup, a little boy from her class gave her a necklace that says FOXY. Kia said "thankyou". We didn't have time to put it on...but I assured Da...I mean Boy #1 that she would put it on later...to which he responded with a giant smile.

Then another little boy...different little boy sees Kia. "Kia, you look beautiful today!" Boy #2 says. Kia shyly smiles and goes to her desk to get her indoor shoes. Boy #2, who is in the front of the line for gym, goes to the back of the line so he can stand by Kia and proceeds to tell her she also smells pink. Kia had to bite her lip, trying not to beam at the Boy #2 who said she looked beautiful and …

L O S T... Who dies tonight?

All you die hard fans of the show...who frequent this blog (Heather, this means you) should know that tonight a main character is killed. Murdered by another character on the show.

WHO IS IT! Highlight bracket only if you really really want to know...

Locke? Walt? Claire? Jack? Kate? Sayid? Shannon? Michael? Sawyer? Jin? Sun? Charlie? Hurley?

The internet rumours say it is [Shannon] I really don't have a clue! I can't wait to watch it tonight!

Grumbles and Squeeks.

I went in to Kia's bedroom this morning and tried to say, "time to wake up!"

Sounded like "SQUEEK To SQUEEK UUUUU"

Gulp. Hand to throat. Wild contemplation on my part.

The squeek is apparantley in a range Kia can't hear at all...because my frantic squeeking didn't even stir the covers of her striped duvet.

So I turned on the light. The striped duvet started grumbling at me. "Light off...light off! MY eyes are burning...AHHHH."

That worked. The grumble that lived under the blanket slowly made her way down her ladder and grumbled right on by me in a sleepy haze.

Ahhh...it's going to a great day. I can just feel it. Squeek!

Favorite Weekend Photo

Kia and Lily, originally uploaded by Sabren. Kia was so excited to hold her new cousin, Lily. I love that this picture captures Lily just huffing up for a sqwalk. LOL.

Naughy naughty blogger

Haven't blogged since Tuesday. I take all the lovingly worded hate mail I've been receiving, to mean that you must really love me. Busy week...so busy it's just a blur. Russyl's brother, Darren and his family visiting us in Edmonton this weekend.
Russ built the desk area in my future scraproom. LOVE IT! I need to stain it this week and varnish it a few times...but I should be able to move my scraproom by November 11th. Crop night is November 15th...always cutting it close to the deadlines. :)
The above means that I'll have lots of work to do in the future family room. A renovation is never really done.
Ultimate fighter marathon has been on SPIKE all day. Guess what Russ and Darren have been watching? So fun shopping at scrapbooking stores with Amy. She is very well versed with the scrapbooking garble and we had lots of fun talking companies and saying "isnt' this sooo cute!" about 100 times.

My family got bigger. And better. And much bigger since this photo...babies, a husband and couple wives have since been added to the fray!

My Dad stood beside me. Only a breath away. I didn't know that this would be the last photograph of us together. I love how I'm looking at him. Taking him in. I miss him so much today. I have to hold back a sob of longing just remembering this moment. He wore ridiculous clothes, didn't shave and looked like Grizzly Adam's loner brother...but I was so happy he was my Dad and he was there beside me.

Here we are. Taking our first steps out into the world. Together. So thankful for this day. For chosing each other. For being willing to mean it. And every day since has only made me love him more. I love this picture...the look on my face says, "I have a secret...I just married the best guy in the world." Oops...secrets out.
